In Search of Steve Ditko

Well, I needed cheering up. I’ve been suffering from the most abysmal cold/flu bug all week. I still feel rough, and my neck bumps are still a bit swollen, but it seems the worst is finally over.

And to make my diminished mood even better, my DVD of Jonathan Ross’s new show, In Search of Steve Ditko, popped through the letterbox. Yeah, that show I worked on, brag brag, egotism, etc.

In Search of…

Hmmm, okay, as the stories about this have spread across the Internet like a rash since Blake Bell posted about it, I might as well confirm that the Jonathan Ross show I was working on back in Feb/March (and which I have continued to help with where I can, as needed) is entitled “In Search of Steve Ditko”. It’s a profile of the less-famous half of the original Spider-Man creative team, to be aired on BBC4 sometime in the near future.

My March 1st entry was related to this, of course.

Otherwise, I don’t want to discuss too many details, or nuts and bolts, except to say, I hope it’ll be a really cool show, and it’s nice to have been able to contribute.

Testing Testing…

If this works, it means the site is working again. Lack of postings hasn’t been a sign of apathy, as those who’ve noticed the problems with the comments will know. Just technical trouble.

Damn, and I had so many brilliantly witty and insightful things to say in the last week. Sadly, I’ve forgotten them all now. 🙂

Report Schmeport

I’ve been tempted to write a lengthy ramble about the so-called Hutton Report, it being one of the few things sparking my attention in the news… but, nah, I’ll be brief (I think).

What does this report mean, anyway? Are people getting confused about the Lord in Lord Hutton? It doesn’t mean Lord as in God, you know. In my opinion, for a report of this kind to carry any kind of weight, it needs to be the result of analysis by panel (in the same way that a trial verdict is reached by jury). Even that hardly ensures true objectivity—whatever that is—but it’s probably the best we can hope for.

One man’s allegedly objective analysis simply isn’t good enough, particularly when he admits the ‘scope’ of the report is so limited as to rob the process of any genuine context. Aw, who needs a context anyway? Hilarious.

Stranger than Strange

Last night, I watched the new BBC series Strange. There was a pilot for this 18 months or so back, but I only saw half of it. Simple premise: John Strange, defrocked priest, and his pals, investigate and put a stop to evil supernatural stuff, particularly of a demonic variety. Yep, it is as silly as it sounds… but it works pretty well.

Dodged Bullet

Oh, I was almost on BBC News yesterday. They were doing a thing about the (yawn) rail cock-ups at New Street station, and in spite of my best efforts to avoid it, I almost certainly walked into shot on two occasions. I saw the report, though, and the bits with me on it weren’t used. *phew*
