Out short film Monsters, starring Liam Woon, had its public premiere earlier today at the Grindhouse Planet Film Festival, The Shed, Leicester. Here’s a snap of the screening, plus Liam and Steve posing with organiser Marc Hamill…
Well… this is not really the place for a debate on the issue, but frankly I’m not at all happy with or impressed by the current incarnation of Ye Doctor in Doctor Who series 11. I feel Jodie Whittaker is hopelessly miscast** and the series has been all-round terrible (with the bizarre exception of Bradley Walsh, I’m shocked to hear myself saying)—and I’m not particularly inclined to watch more of them…
Nonetheless, I did have a go at drawing Jodie as the Doctor, and the result is kinda visually interesting. Or so I think, anyhow. BTW, this artwork is for sale, so feel free to make offers! 🙂
NOTE: THIS ARTWORK IS NOW SOLD.
So here’s Jodie, plus a couple of sketchcards of monster characters I like whose names begin with H.
Just a couple of new drawings finished recently. First up is a portrait of David Banks and his alter ago, whom he portrayed in the classic run of Doctor Who during the 1980s, namely, the Cyberleader (of the Cybermen). Secondly, a pinup of Orion and (as a large floating head!) Darkseid, from Jack Kirby’s New Gods.
Delighted to be able to announce that this documentary feature, of Steve Green interviewing cult actress Dagmar Lassander at the 2016 Festival of Fantastic Films, which I did the video editing for, will be on Arrow Video‘s forthcoming January Blu-ray release of Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion.
So… I’ve been playing with the footage for Monsters, and here’s a couple of frame grabs.
Principal photograph for Monsters was completed last night (Sunday)! In a very cold warehouse in deepest Coventry, the six-hour shoot went really well… a couple of annoying technical problems were surmounted without any great drama. (Okay, maybe some drama!!)
Huge thanks to Liam Woon for his brilliant performance and going above & beyond to help us ensure it all worked out! More soon!! But in the meanwhile, as ever, here are some photos for you to peruse…
Yesterday, we had our rehearsal for the aforementioned Monsters short, with Liam Woon playing the role of “The Man”. The final run-through was filmed and I played around with the image & sound a little bit. The shooting proper will take place later this month. Meanwhile, here’s a rehearsal pic, a test grab from the rehearsal film, and a shot of Liam with Steve…
Just a couple of recent scrawls in the monstery vein.
As it’s been a while since the news broke, I thought it was about time to mention Steve Ditko, co-creator of Spider-Man (and lots of others), who died late in June, aged 90.
He was always one of my major art influences. He had a unique eye and a memorably distinctive style that persisted to the very end. I was one of the ‘faithful’, I guess; those who followed Steve’s work throughout. It was always worth looking at, even if he favoured a very stripped-down approach later in life.
Here’s a pic of Steve I just drew…
