Bombing for Freedom

Today’s war news: the coalition aces have bombed Mansour, because Saddam ‘might’ have been there, and blitzed the Palestine Hotel where numerous journalists were based. We don’t know if they got Saddam or not, of course, but we do know they blasted another bunch of civilians (you know, the ones they’re ‘liberating’) into the next world based on their so-called ‘intelligence.’

I’ve said it before: I just want it to end…

Thanks for the responses to yesterday’s top ten thingy. If you haven’t added your own comments, please do. Next week, I’ll try to list my Top Ten Books.

I haven’t read a book for about a week. The last one was Dumb Witness, a Hercule Poirot story. I love detective fiction and Poirot’s one of the best (obviously, Sherlock Holmes is Numero Uno!). I was glad to hear that Granada have signed a deal which ensures more Poirot episodes starring David Suchet. Okay, Albert Finney is brilliant, but I didn’t like his Poirot—Suchet simply is Poirot, and will never be surpassed.

  1. Trade you a Chretien for a Blair any day.

I haven’t seen him in years (PBS requires cable where I live) but David Suchet’s a terrific Poirot (and I still like Brett’s Holmes). Please LMK if you ever hear of Granada doing something useful with Game, Set & Match (reported permanently shelved due to Deighton’s disapproval).
