Well, gee, still neglecting the poor old blog. But worry not, it ain’t going anywhere… it simply doesn’t attract enough interest or feedback to inspire me and/or take priority over other things. So there.

I have been quite busy. I had to finish up a fanzine project Paul Gravett and I have been doing. That’s out of the way now. Paul has sorted out the printing, and today he heads off to the French comics festival Angouleme until the weekend. (Wish I was going too. Note to self: overseas travel is a must this year.)

Last weekend was good. I went down to London and stayed overnight at Paul’s. We caught up with some old friends and the mood was, on the whole, hugely positive. It was the best trip I’ve taken for quite a while. We even went down Ilford way to catch up with Mr. Tim Bateman, who we’d not seen for about three years. All this and the first Indian meal I’ve had in over three years (if you don’t count the odd samosa for lunch), which was awfully nice. Martin Skidmore showed up too, so a great time all round.

Is It Still January?
Paul took this snap of me with Martin & Tim, shortly after our Indian meal in Ilford.

Paul also spent some time encouraging my efforts in comix. Work on the third issue of my bizarre little strip-‘zine, Fragments, has been on hiatus for about a month due to other stuff to do, but his faith in the work has given me some incentive to go back to it shortly.

Last week, I also solved the Spider-Man 2 DVD mystery. It was pretty simple, really: mucky laser lens syndrome. It happens to all players, but some worse/quicker than others depending on how the things are constructed and what the atmosphere they’re situated in is like. In our case, both are situated very near to non-double-glazed windows, therefore much more open to factors such as condensation than is particularly advisable.

Anyway: I was able to fix the problem by opening the machine and cleaning the lens with a cotton bud and some alcohol. (Actually, nail varnish remover, but it did the same job.)

  1. Chris,

Glad the dvd player is sorted. I thought the second “bourne” was a better film, with the exception of the orphaned child and bourne in the apartment scene . That scence was a little on the nose.

  2. I used to have to that every few weeks with my old multiplay cd player, it was really obnoxious.

Nearly Feb, with Love you til tuesday, David Live and Stage being released 🙂

  3. Yeah, I had a cheap multi-disc CD player that was hopeless. This was several years ago, and I had someone in to fix it, but it only lasted about three months. Those players with a large gap at the front where the tray goes are the worst… completely open to the elements.

I once killed a CD player by accidentally leaving the tray open all night while I was asleep during very humid weather. *sigh*

The Bowie releases are exciting! But, the latter two: CD or DVDA? Choices, choices…

  4. Mine was a 5cd changer, I really loved that player, but alas the cassette decks went on it as well 🙁

I’m am not sold on DVDa, I would love to get them, but am unsure if my equipment would be able to play them, so I have settled for the CD releases.

  5. I’m a stupid who is still fuming that nobody told me the difference between DVD-RW and DVD+RW (R also) and thus tore his hair out wondering why I couldn’t record on the buggers! grrrr!
btw, also pissed off about the cruddy lip-sync when recording in anything other than ex quality or standard… grrrrr…. once again!
