1095 Days

Well, it’s now December, which means this blog’s three years old. How scary. Life was quite substantially different three years ago (in both a better way and a worse way). Starting a blog was just a laugh at the time, which on reflection might be the best attitude to have, since looking for a greater importance seems bound to fail.

I guess this is as good a time as any to wonder whether I ought to call it a day. Again. I don’t know. I have a love-hate relationship with this thing. It can be an interesting dumping ground for my ramblings occasionally. But hey, it’s just the Internet. I’m sure it’s the part of me that despises the Internet that would prevent me from designing Web sites for a living (even if I were good enough, and I don’t believe I am). Yep. Too much of this intangible mess of noise represents the degeneration of true communication. I’ve never been misunderstood so profoundly or consistently as when using this medium. The only compelling part is my belief that it must actually be useful, though I’ve seen very little evidence of this.

I’ve said something like this before, so I’ll shut up. Happy third birthday, etc.

  1. hippy/hoppy/happy bday etc

the redeemtary powers of the net eh? , well i believe, not least coz you can wander into forum, watch the inevitable/ubiquitious flaming & start a thread like ‘flaming: why does it happen?’ & the ‘decent’ silent majority break free.

miscommunication….well, its a tricky one, but others interpretations are always beyond your control, the reason why this medium encourages it is more is that the medium is more immediate than book publishing but less immediate than speech & ‘more’ public than both, i suspect… but then again

of course over at speckledpaint.org & solipsistic.org the man joshua has raised the bar on paranoid ambiguity & made it an exquiste art & (possibly) loadsa fun.

plus i never would have felt i ‘knew’ anything about daily life in Iraq without salam, nor the conduct of the ‘peace’ without… oh.. fart oo many to mention

also loads of techie info stuff from taps, cars, pesticides to shaped charge warheads & css
nevertheless it is the case as it used to be said “99% is sh*t”

    no worries…etc
