Today, I finally finished the new “Networks” column for Comics International #197. I think I’m about a week behind the deadline, but I’m not the only one, and Dez has been understanding of current circumstances, so all is well.
I didn’t attend the Bristol Comic Expo. In the end, it came down to the fact that thirty quid for a train ticket on the day, for just a few hours, was unjustifiable expense. Now, if it had been London… a ticket on the day to Marylebone would’ve been much cheaper (though not from New Street—that other station whose name I never remember, at the back of M&S).
Things have been up-and-down since mom came home, and at the moment they’re kind of down. She had a few good days, but then she had to go to outpatients for another test, last Wednesday, and since then she’s not been doing so well. I think they’ve somehow caused her to get an infection either from bad hygiene or general incompetence, and given her rather serious condition to begin with I am pretty fucking angry about it. But what can you do? Just deal with the anger, I guess. I have a feeling she’ll be back in within a day or two, being treated not for her existing health issues but for the additional shit the NHS have managed to inflict upon her.
Bastards.
And then there’s my sleep patterns. Man, I really messed with those last night. Seeing as the CI deadline was overdue and I was needing to do a NetworX strip, I found myself leaving an MSN chat with Andy Luke at almost 4.30am and… starting work on it. Phew. It was almost 6am when I finished it. Pretty fast, apparently on auto-pilot, and it turned out surprisingly well.
But seriously: I have to sort my sleeping habits out before they become a complete inversion of conventional routine…
Snow Hill? That sounds familiar.

Your rail misery is nothing compared to mine for this weekend’s AVEN meet in London!
As I said on t’other t’ing, really nice atmospheric piece there, particularly with the addition of seductive spot colour.
Really sorry to hear about your mum. Have you told your doctor about this possible infection risk? Keep us informed as to events, and best wishes to the both of you – I’m sure everyone’s thoughts are with you. Any time you need a chat to lift your spirits (or just irritate the hell out of you!), you know where I am.
Just want to say I think the NetworX strips are brilliant – especially loved the ebay one. All the best for everything…
