Weekend Roundup

So, should I officially make this a ‘one entry per weekend’ blog or what? Nah. Then I’d feel like writing stuff all the time and wouldn’t be able to stick to Der Rulez. Um, right.

I’ve been organising a bit. It’s amazing how you can live somewhere for nine months and still have a room that’s a stinking pit of disorder and clutter. That needed to change. I still have to get a couple of cheap, small bookcases and lots of stuff to fill the walls (I’m working on it), but generally things are much nicer now. The dog would now doubt attempt to sabotage my good work if he wasn’t on restricted access. 🙂

I’ve also tried to improve my career prospects a bit. I’m not willing to talk about that in detail until something firm develops—but progress on the journalism front could be on the horizon.

Oh, speaking of housey stuff… you know how in the hot weather having a window open is a really good idea, yet doing so tends to get the house infested with hordes of flying and crawling beasts? Always been a problem for me, that, and perhaps the nadir of my phobia was about 12 years ago. A mosquito got into my bedroom. It took me a week to catch the bastard, and every night he had a veritable feast on my legs and feet. When I finally got him, I had at least a dozen fairly nasty bites. Ever since then, I’ve resisted having my bedroom window open as much as humanly possible.

Well, this year it was gonna be different! We bought some bug screens for the windows. (Basically, pieces of net curtain you cut out to the right size and stick around the frames with velcro.) I put ’em up a few days ago. Great! The ironic bit: ever since then, the hot weather’s more or less disappeared. I was wearing a cardy earlier. I mean, for fuck’s sake!

Quick random checklist:
* Yes, we still have the dog. Mom loses her rag and threatens to get rid of him approximately twice a day, but he’s still here.
* Yes, the computer’s new hard drive is still working.
* No, I’m not watching bloody Big Brother.
* No, I don’t care if England gets knocked out or not.

Enough.
