Well, as of yesterday, I’m back on a decent computer. I picked up a 120gb HD (rather than 160) from ebay, where it seems I go for almost everything these days. Quick delivery, brand new, well packaged, and within five minutes I had it fitted and Windows setup running.
I guess it’ll take a few days to get everything on here how I want it. But it’s nice to not be seeing the machine sitting around like an expensive ornament. And at least I learned how to fit a hard drive out of the experience. I’m sure that’ll come in handy on an almost daily basis. 🙂
It’s been a weird few weeks with that and having a dog around. The dog’s future here, it has to be said, is at present under consideration. Let’s just say he has a boisterous nature and a discipline problem… and mom, not being in the best of health, is finding it very difficult to cope (and with her angina, too much stress is a real no-no).
Our last dog was such a sweetie most of the time, and so responsive and generally well-behaved. This one is incredibly thick-skinned and not responsive at all. In a two-bedroom flat, with one person who has health issues, this is a bad situation. One day at a time, right now. But mom’s almost at the end of her rope. *sigh*
We saw Paycheck in the week. It really wasn’t as bad as the critics made out. I quite enjoyed it. Ben Affleck’s hair put in a particularly good performance; I was thoroughly convinced.
Speaking of ebay, it finally netted me the aforementioned F for Fake on DVD (Brazil import), so when that arrives, my life is complete. Er, well, sort of.
On the book front, the sixth (penultimate) volume in Stephen King’s Dark Tower epic, Song of Susannah, is out! This has plucked my conscience, as I’ve had the previous one, Wolves of the Calla, since it first appeared last Autumn and haven’t got round to reading it. I’ve finally started on it! Very positive impressions so far—what took me so long?
Does anyone really care about Euro 2004? Judging by all the dumb flags waving from every other car, it would appear so. This is a sudden burst of patriotism from people who, generally, moan about the government, moan about the price of everything and slag off the monarchy… apparently, none of this counts when ‘we’ are up against Johnny Foreigner. How many of these people could explain this ridiculous dichotomy in terms better than Us vs. Them? ‘Yeah, our country’s shit, but it’s OUR country!’ *yawn* Patriotism be damned. But I’ve been into that already, so ’nuff said.
+if push came to shome I’m afraid I’d vote for Dusty Mop as Humphrey Cushion (despite being charismatic) was a complete Kilroy. I rest my case.
BTW, Humphrey kept producing bananas from his ‘pocket’, randy bastard.
