Bidding Frenzy

I said I shouldn’t make a habit of ebay! I’ve found myself bidding on a number of items and I’m trying to not get carried away…

Items won: Joseph Cotten’s autobiography for mom (though I want to read it too); Bowie’s Buddha of Suburbia (a Russian import w/his Labyrinth stuff on the same CD) and Tin Machine II—thus completing my Bowie studio album collection, finally—plus a bootleg of his 1.Outside outtakes. Fortunately, they were all reasonably priced; this could get seriously expensive if you’re not careful!

Currently being tempted by: a five-CD collection of just about every significant radio broadbast Orson Welles made (inc. The Shadow, Harry Lime, etc.), and a Spanish import DVD of Welles’ Chimes at Midnight, which is unlikely to get released over here for some time, and is one of the two OW-directed films I’ve never seen—the other being Immortal Story. Since I don’t have money to burn, I need to tread with caution…

It’s great fun, tho’. 🙂

To balance this out, I wouldn’t mind becoming an ebay seller. I have a few items I don’t want. But you need a credit card to register for selling—I don’t trust myself with a credit card.

Anyone out there interested in some cheap DVDs? I have some recent-ish releases I’d sell for a fiver each (plus £1.50 p&p). They are: Dreamcatcher, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Sin Eater, Cabin Fever, Wrong Turn and Deathwatch. E-mail me if anything takes your fancy!

  1. I try to steer clear of eBay these days. Over the course of about four years I rebuilt a Fourth World set from scratch and completed my Heath ’70s Sgt Rocks. Unfortunately the act of giving away a box of ’70s sports cards has reminded me that I had full sets of Rat Patrol and Planet of the Apes cards in the ’60s, and I’ve been casually observing sales of those since (a mint set of Rat Patrol cards — I took mine for Show and Tell in kindergarten and lost it — went last year for > US$500). The PotA set (the original movie version) comes in Canadian (the one I had), US and UK flavours — the UK set is the nicest because it has a black border. It looks like the way to get these is in small batches.
