I was talking to mom about this New Deal stuff earlier, and in particular having a moan about how I felt misled, i.e. that this work placement would be waged, etc. She said: ‘Well, they’ll do anything to get you on these things. They’re just doing what Mein Fuehrer says.’
(Mein Fuehrer probably meant Tony Blair. I didn’t bother asking.)
Mom’s been a Conservative all her life; in fact, she was a Young Conservative! When someone like that looks at a so-called Labour government and infers their policies indicate Nazism or Fascism… that says it all. I was pleasantly amused and in total agreement.
Speaking of which, I have another appointment at Gestapo Headquarters tomorrow.
Wimbledon’s over, then. I was indifferent to who won either of the main titles, really, although Roger Federer seems like a nice guy. But it was incredibly cool to see Martina Navratilova take a 20th Wimbledon title, in the mixed doubles, to equal Billie Jean’s record. What a legend.
