Tony’s Principles

Yesterday was a sucky kind of day. New Deal appointment. Went badly. Another one tomorrow. Whoopee-doo.

We’re expecting an offer for the house by phone maybe tomorrow. The prospective buyer came round with his surveyor yesterday and it was all over quite quickly.

I won’t talk much about this war situation we have. It’s a depressing subject. I am feeling a bit nervous about it, I guess, but it’s out of our hands, literally. I saw the Bush speech and mostly I thought, well, at least it was pre-scripted and devoid of cowboys & indians rhetoric. Mostly. Blair in parliament today was impassioned and forceful, but he doesn’t convince me—I don’t believe for a second this is about Tony’s Principles so much as Tony’s Ego. Surreal moment: William Hague stands up to give TB a ringing endorsement. Did I say surreal? Sorry, I meant nauseating. Even Tone looked rather embarrassed.

I can’t believe opinion polls seem to be swinging in favour of Blair’s position. Are the public really so mindless as to be prodded into gung-ho sentiment that easily? Please tell me it isn’t so.
